Queensland’s Justice Minister Kelly O’Dwyer says the laws were being debated in the Senate on Wednesday.

Senator O’Dwyer said Queensland’s laws would give a “satisfactory answer” for anyone who was accused of domestic violence and “will reduce the impact” of violent crime in the state.

NRL’s Paul Littlejohn says she was disappointed but “just saying that we would all be surprised if the Government would not pass it”.

“We hope that the Federal Government will make sure that we continue to work very closely with them and that they are working really closely with the ACT [Australian Capital Territory] and the Western Australian [Queensland] government,” he said.

NSW Minister for the Interior and Local Government Mike Gallacher said Ms O’Dwyer’s comments were disappointing.

“What she said doesn’t come to my attention at the moment,” he said.

“We have the right laws and the government is making very strong efforts to pass them through.”

New South Wales Opposition Leader Luke Foley says the Attorney-General was right that the laws should be passed.
